Importance Of Mental Health

INTRODUCTION:
So we have to know first what is mental health, mental well-being incorporates our
enthusiastic, mental, and social prosperity. It influences how we think, feel, and act. It
additionally decides how we handle pressure, identify with others, and make solid
choices. Mental well-being is significant in each phase of life, from youth and
immaturity through adulthood. Mental and physical well-being are similarly significant
parts of general well-being. Psychological maladjustment, particularly wretchedness,
builds the danger for some sorts of actual medical issues, especially durable conditions
like stroke, type 2 diabetes, and coronary illness. Essentially, the presence of constant
conditions can build the danger of psychological maladjustment. Mental health is very
important for every human being because when you are mentally strong you will feel
physically strong but if you are mentally disturbed it can disturb and destroy your
physical health as well.
When you are mentally not well then mental illness often starts but in our society we
don’t know the difference between mental health and mental illness, Mental illnesses
are conditions that affect a person’s thinking, feeling, mood, or behavior, such as
depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, or schizophrenia. Such conditions may be
occasional or long-lasting (chronic) and affect someone’s ability to relate to others and
function each day.

WHAT CAUSES MENTAL ILLNESS?
There is no single cause for mental illness. Several factors can contribute to the risk for
mental illness, such as:

  1. Early adverse life experiences, such as trauma or a history of abuse (for example,
child abuse, sexual assault, witnessing violence, etc.)
  2. Experiences related to other ongoing (chronic) medical conditions, such as
    cancer or diabetes.
  3. Biological factors, such as genes or chemical imbalances in the brain
  4. Use of alcohol or recreational drugs
  5. Having few friends
  6. Having a feeling of loneliness or isolation
  7. Anxiety Disorders – More than 18% of adults each year struggle with some type
of anxiety disorder, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive-
compulsive disorder (OCD), panic disorder (panic attacks), generalized anxiety
    disorder, and specific phobias.
  8. Mood Disorders – Mood disorders, such as depression and bipolar depression,
affect nearly 10% of adults each year and are characterized by difficulties in
    regulating one’s mood.

These are the most important causes of mental illness and one who is facing them will
not be in a good mental state because mental health can change over time, no one can
live with the same mental health in his entire life and we have to normalize this that a
person’s mental health can change over time, depending on many factors. When the
demands placed on a person exceed their resources and coping abilities, their mental
health could be impacted. For example, if someone is working long hours, caring for an
ill relative, or experiencing economic hardship they may experience poor mental health.
We have to understand that mental illnesses affect 19% of the adult population, 46% of
teenagers, and 13% of children each year. People struggling with their mental
health may be in your family, friends, neighbors, work colleagues, or anyone you
randomly know.
However, only half of those affected receive treatment, often because of the stigma
attached to mental health. Untreated, mental illness can contribute to higher medical
expenses, poorer performance at school and work, fewer employment opportunities,
and an increased risk of suicide. These aspects prove that how much awareness of
mental health is important because depression and anxiety are common issues these
days but we don’t understand the value of mental health so we don’t give them value nor
do we care about the person who is facing or fighting these issues. A very famous saying
by Sigmund Freud he says “We are what we are because we have been what we have
been, and what is needed for solving the problems of human life and motives is not
moral estimates but more knowledge.” So we can understand by this how much
awareness of mental health is important.

CONCLUSION:
Here are some best ways to fight with mental illness:

1- Manage your diet, because a good diet is very essential for our body and for our mind
as well.
2- Activity and exercise on daily basis can help us in feeling relax and relieving our
stress.
3- Getting better sleep is very important because getting proper sleep makes us fresh
and charged which is necessary to maintain good health.
4- Learn how to deal with stress because it is dangerous for our physical and mental
well-being.
5- Try to engage with your family and friends more and spend time with them.
Even if we are not facing such issues we still have to follow these ways to maintain our
good physical and mental well-being. It is necessary to give awareness to others about
the importance of mental health. And if you all will see someone in your surroundings
who you know is fighting with stress or any other mental issues so try to help them, try
to motivate them, and try to talk with them because it will make them comfortable to
talk about their issues openly and if you’re the one who is facing these issues then don’t
hesitate to ask help from others, I know this is an era of social media and everyone is
busy in their life but it’s our responsibility to not forget that being a human beings we
have our responsibilities towards the humanity and for the betterment of the other
human beings as well.
